Dear x,
Computing and its applications have always fascinated me and for thisreason I have found my A-level courses extremely interesting. This also hasmaintained my long-term interest in computer-related careers. I have studiedmathematics, physics and computing to A-level and also during the first year atHills Road Sixth Form College I re-took my GCSE English.
Last year and this year I have been improving my self-learning, anddeveloping many skills with the help of the key skills qualifications andA-level General Studies. My sincerest desire is to become a computer scientist.Specifically, I am interested in exploring how problems can be modeled andsolved using artificial intelligence.
I also want to learn about human cognition and machine intelligence. I havebeen studying the online debate over whether machines will ever become“intelligent” given the current course of research and reading about such issuesas whether a machine can acquire “common sense” (as discussed in HubertDreyfus's book “What Computers Still Can't Do“). I have been exploring manydifferent areas within the domain of artificial intelligence (such as neuralnetworks, genetic algorithms, and natural language processing). The bottom lineis that I want to be a part of this exciting field.
Over the summer I traveled to Russia, and thoroughly enjoyed exploring avery different part of the world. My other interests include current affairs andsports, such as football, tennis and general fitness. Ever since the start ofsixth form I have been a successful member of the college football team. I haveplayed basketball as an enrichment activity because it was a new sport to me atthe beginning of sixth form. I also participated in a 5-a-side indoor footballtournament at the college. In addition to pursuing my academic studies I wouldlike to continue some of these sports at university.
Yours sincerely,

Dear XX,
Mathematics is a concept used by most, enjoyed by few. I have alwaysconsidered myself a member of this minority, yet the question of why it wasmathematics I wish to study at university puzzled me. I thought that not to finda logical answer for this question would undermine the foundations of thesubject which I have regarded so highly. After thorough contemplation of thisquestion it came to me that my passion for the subject did not come from mypersonal ambitions of becoming a mathematician. It was from the elegance andlogic of the subject, which will always be thought of as the mother of allsciences, that has fuelled my aspiration of continuing it a higher academiclevel.
Academically I have always driven myself to be able to attain my potentialand to cope with any circumstances which may hinder me achieving my goal. I amcurrently self-taught in two of my mathematics modules, M1 and S1, due to staffretirements and the fact of their being no alternative modules which I couldstudy. Although I am in this situation I am determined to use theself-discipline I have gained through my extra-curricular activities to be ableto complete my mathematics A level to the highest possible standard.
I have taken part in a variety of extra-curricular, some of which I havehad to dedicate myself to. This has taught me the vital skill of timemanagement. In the Army Cadet Force I learnt how to discipline myself to be ableto achieve tasks that would require great deals of effort, both physical andmental. The Duke of Edinburgh Award (Bronze) showed me how to plan and executeexpeditions whilst being responsible for my team members. Simultaneously I was ayouth worker at Epping youth centre for eighteen months; my duties includedplanning activities and maintaining a safe atmosphere. I feel the combination ofall of these skills has helped me to cope with my A level work and it is to mybelief it will do equally as much when I join university.
In mathematics I have constructed a method of making questions morefeasible by the philosophical concept of reductionism, which brings a questiondown to its core elements allowing the ambiguity of questions to be eliminatedby reapplying the simplification. This has been particularly helpful intrigonometry and algebra to an extent where my colleagues have adopted thisapproach to mathematics. From what I have learnt about the difference ofmathematics at A level and degree level is that the questions will rarely show astraight forward method of being solved as in A level. I believe I will enjoythis transition, since it will allow me to have an opportunity to meetchallenges which I have not had the chance to meet at A level.
To conclude this statement, I feel that university is certainly the nextlogical step for me and I am looking forward to the transition between collegeand university. My image of university is a place where I will not only gain ahigher understanding of the subject I am passionate about, but a place I will beable to bring what I have learnt to a variety of people; sharing my own cultureand views, whilst learning theirs. If accepted I believe I will gain a lot fromuniversity, but also contribute to it, equally as much.
Yours sincerely,
XX

Dear _,
A Master’s student of accounting at Xiamen University, the best higher-learning institution in China’s strategically important Province of Fujian, across the Straits from Taiwan, I would like to pursue Ph. D. studies in your distinguished program so that I can be assured a teaching career in my motherland.
My education so far is characterized by indisputable excellence. During the four years of my undergraduate studies, my GPA was consistently the highest in my class of 135 students. As you can see from the transcripts of my academic record, I received straight A’s for all the courses except for first-year Physical Education. My graduation was rated “Outstanding”, the highest rating possible. An in-depth analysis of the ethical standards of Chinese auditors, the paper was later published in a quality professional journal as a seminal study of a rarely studied topic in China. As the unquestionably best student in my year, I was accepted into graduate studies by the university without the normally mandatory entrance examinations.
In recognition of my academic performance and other strengths, I was decorated with many honors and accolades during my undergraduate studies. I was elected the monitor of the class and the Vice President of the university’s Student Union, making me the most important female student leader on campus. Among the financial awards I won was the Jiageng Scholarship, the university’s most prestigious award named after its founder Chen Jiageng, one of the best known patriotic Chinese in the first half of this century. The Jiageng /scholarship is offered to only ten students each year, and the offer is usually presented to the recipients by the university’s president in person in a grand ceremony, as it was in , when I got it.
In my undergraduate studies, I had broad academic interests, although I majored in accounting. I regularly read academic journals, both Chinese and international, to keep me abreast of the latest developments in accounting and other related fields. I devoted considerable time to learning such subjects as law and economics. My extensive knowledge provided me solid grounding as I narrowed down my research interest to professional ethics of accountants. In a country that has only an inchoate legal regime governing professional practice. Enforcing high ethical standards is both difficult and critical. But studies have been scant and haphazard so far. I am glad that I have made quite some contribution to the country’s discourse in this area.
Yours sincerely,

1、与旅行签证是完全两种不同的签证类别,无论在何种情况下,旅行签证都不得改签为留学签证;
2、签证办理地点为法国驻华使领馆及各地办事处;
3、签证审批期限视留学生的申请材料及个人情况而定,最少不会短于2个星期;
Dear _,
My determination to study engineering comes from my desire to seek a challenge. In life, there seems to be no bigger challenge than to learn and find out how things work. In our modern world, engineering plays a big role in the foundations of technology and knowledge and this is what I am interested in.
As my year 12 progressed, my interest in science and Maths, particularly Physics developed. Studying Physics at Advanced level allows me to think about how things move and react to forces and how these properties can be used in solving both practical and theoretical situations. Maths interests me as it develops my problem solving skills, allowing me to apply familiar concepts to unfamiliar situations. My enthusiasm towards these subjects encouraged me to take up AS Further Maths. In doing so, I hope to expand my knowledge to achieve a level of understanding satisfactory to a potential degree level student. In addition to Physics and Maths, I am also studying Biology which provides me with the opportunity to develop my practical skills as I am required to work within groups. My communication skills have been put to the test during these lessons and I have proved many times that I am a team player.
After much research, I decided to attend taster courses at City University and Queen Mary University of London to experience what engineering involves. These informative taster courses offered me a unique chance to understand and to observe different areas of engineering which subsequently led me to the decision to pursue mechanical engineering. Its ability to allow me to see how things work fascinates me and furthermore, as mechanical engineering is a diverse field, it will allow me to learn and use many skills which can be transferred onto many employment opportunities.
Although I have enjoyed the challenge that my school-based work has given me, I have always sought to extend my knowledge. Recently, I built a computer. I discovered how each component is connected and how one energy source is converted into another. This has allowed me to apply the theory I learn within the curriculum to real situations. Furthermore, I was able to see how the components fit together by taking apart unwanted pieces from my old computer.
I have always been willing to give my time to take part in activities such as volunteering. I once raised money for the Marie Curie foundation. During this period, I improved my communication skills and confidence as I met and talked to many members of the community. I found that this experience was rewarding and fulfilling. I am a trusted member of my year group and when asked to be an ambassador for my sixth form, I accepted. This experience allowed me to demonstrate my organisation and communicational skills as I was required to confidently guide and talk to many potential students to the college. In addition, throughout my academic career, I have played an active role in a variety of different extracurricular activities. I am an adept musician and passed my grade 4 examinations in flute. Although I have decided to discontinue the examinations, every year during events such as Chinese New Year, I play the flute for my local Chinese community.
I believe that success as an engineer in a modern society requires a combination of management, communication and business skills. Therefore, with my previous experiences, focused attitude and will for success, I have the ability and motivation to meet the demands of studying at degree level. The prospect of studying engineering excites me, and I feel confident that I will make contributions to university life.

Dear _,
Pursuing a masters degree is a responsibility I owe to myself as well as a commitment I have to others. I refer to it as a responsibility because I have a proactive outlook on life, which makes me actively seek and go after the things that I want to accomplish in life. I refer to it as a commitment because I want to be an example to others of the attainments and contribution to society that women can make.
My first introduction to human resource management came as a result of an encounter with Victor Banjo, General Manager Human Resources Oceanic Bank Plc. It was as a result of this encounter that I was able to get detailed understanding of the roles played by human resource in tackling human issues and consequently in organizational success.
In light of this, I have decided to take up the masters program in Human Resource Management because I am interested in the role it plays in achieving organizations goals and objectives, key among them being hiring and training the best employees, and dealing with performance issues.
I am a graduate of Mass Communications from Bowen University. My Mass Communications degree has provided me with a strong foundation as well as fortified me with good communications skills, personal communications as well as organizational communications skills, bearing in mind that the importance of proper communication in the business environment cannot be over-emphasized. In the same vein, professionals of communication recognize the importance of good business practices.
My career goal is to work in a leading firm that places priority on professionalism and lead such organization towards attainment of set goals by making use of knowledge garnered as well as experience. Ten years from now I see myself as a human resource consultant, providing professional advice so that others can make the best decisions. I believe a masters degree in Human Resource Management is all I need to make this dream come true. It fits the profile of this goal.
Perhaps some of my greatest attributes is that I am smart, hardworking, and inquisitive. I am always willing to learn and I appreciate every opportunity to learn new things or old ones differently. I am sensitive and genuinely interested in others, which makes me confident that HRM is the path I want to tread. Human resources are vital to any organization: without people the organization would not function.
I chose this university because of its great reputation, its renowned academic excellence, and good industry links as well as flexible postgraduate schemes. I look forward to being a part of a renowned institution as your institution. I firmly believe that the right education in the right school will open doors of advancement in my chosen field of study.
Yours sincerely,

GPA:
IELTS:
6.5或6.0为最低标准线;
TOEFL:

Dear _,
Mathematics is a concept used by most, enjoyed by few. I have always considered myself a member of this minority, yet the question of why it was mathematics I wish to study at university puzzled me. I thought that not to find a logical answer for this question would undermine the foundations of the subject which I have regarded so highly. After thorough contemplation of this question it came to me that my passion for the subject did not come from my personal ambitions of becoming a mathematician. It was from the elegance and logic of the subject, which will always be thought of as the mother of all sciences, that has fuelled my aspiration of continuing it a higher academic level.
Academically I have always driven myself to be able to attain my potential and to cope with any circumstances which may hinder me achieving my goal. I am currently self-taught in two of my mathematics modules, M1 and S1, due to staff retirements and the fact of their being no alternative modules which I could study. Although I am in this situation I am determined to use the self-discipline I have gained through my extra-curricular activities to be able to complete my mathematics A level to the highest possible standard.
I have taken part in a variety of extra-curricular, some of which I have had to dedicate myself to. This has taught me the vital skill of time management. In the Army Cadet Force I learnt how to discipline myself to be able to achieve tasks that would require great deals of effort, both physical and mental. The Duke of Edinburgh Award (Bronze) showed me how to plan and execute expeditions whilst being responsible for my team members. Simultaneously I was a youth worker at Epping youth centre for eighteen months; my duties included planning activities and maintaining a safe atmosphere. I feel the combination of all of these skills has helped me to cope with my A level work and it is to my belief it will do equally as much when I join university.
In mathematics I have constructed a method of making questions more feasible by the philosophical concept of reductionism, which brings a question down to its core elements allowing the ambiguity of questions to be eliminated by reapplying the simplification. This has been particularly helpful in trigonometry and algebra to an extent where my colleagues have adopted this approach to mathematics. From what I have learnt about the difference of mathematics at A level and degree level is that the questions will rarely show a straight forward method of being solved as in A level. I believe I will enjoy this transition, since it will allow me to have an opportunity to meet challenges which I have not had the chance to meet at A level.
To conclude this statement, I feel that university is certainly the next logical step for me and I am looking forward to the transition between college and university. My image of university is a place where I will not only gain a higher understanding of the subject I am passionate about, but a place I will be able to bring what I have learnt to a variety of people; sharing my own culture and views, whilst learning theirs. If accepted I believe I will gain a lot from university, but also contribute to it, equally as much.
Yours sincerely,

Dear x,
For example, you may choose to write on a social issue
about which you are passionate, an experience that has greatly influencedyour life or taught you a valuable lesson, or about a challenge you haveovercome. These are only suggestions, however; the choice of topic is yours.
”Saudi Arabia? That''s a country Daddy? Where is it? Is it going to be likeit is here? Are there going to be playgrounds and ice cream?“
Those were just a few of the thoughts that began circulating through myseven- year old mind. I was born in upstate New York and raised in Maryland, yetof Lebanese origin. Out of nowhere, I learned that I would soon have to leave myfriends and the only place I had ever known existed; it turned my world upsidedown. I was just like any other seven-year old girl; obsessed with Barbies, playing dress-up with my mother''s clothes and jauntily leading a carefree life.I was a very curious young child, always feeling the need to know somethingabout everything. I was outgoing and sometimes a bit obnoxious, but then againwho wasn''t at the age of seven? Soon after I learned of our move to SaudiArabia, everything changed.
I arrived in Saudi Arabia and experienced extreme culture shock. I learnedthat in public, women have to be covered from head to toe by wearing what theSaudis call an ”abaya“, which is a black cloak or gown that completely coversthe female body. Women are not allowed to drive, work, or closely interact withmen, and the weather is unbearably hot 11 months a year. The people spoke alanguage unfathomable to me and I was on the verge of a breakdown. In thisstrange, new country, I felt like a completely different person. I knewabsolutely no one. I went from being a happy, outgoing little girl to a girlwith no friends and no knowledge of anything around her, which of course was acompletely alien experience for me. What could Saudi Arabia possibly offer me?Was I ever going to learn to tolerate the vastly contrasting culture andlifestyle? The moment I saw the endless cascading mounds of sand and barrenearth, I was convinced that there was no way I was ever going to make friendswith people who were at home in this desolate and backwards country, whononetheless spoke a language completely foreign to me. I remember cryingeveryday, begging my parents to take me back home; a place where I was perfectlyhappy with everything and never complained. Soon enough however, I was placed inan American school in the middle of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Over the years, I metpeople who had also just moved from their countries and we all turned to eachother to share our thoughts and experiences in our new ”home.“ Up until theninth grade, I remained a shy and reserved individual, as there wasn''t much fora young girl to do in a strict and religious country like Saudi Arabia; or so Ithought. It was not until my freshman year that I broke out of my tiny, introverted bubble and began taking an active role in my school surroundings. Ibegan getting myself involved in competitive school team sports such asbasketball and soccer; went on an international study trip with the school toSwitzerland and traveled around the kingdom as a member of Saudi Arabia''sAll-Kingdom Band playing the trombone with proud fluency. I even managed toacquire the country''s native language, Arabic, and began to learn more about myreligion - Islam. I soon established friendships with individuals from variouscountries such as Canada, Egypt, Jordan, United States of America, South Africa,Brazil and Pakistan, just to name a few. The people helped me adjust to thecountry, despite its desert-like climate and strict rules. Over time, we sharedaspects of our cultures and traditions, in addition to realizing that we allhave our similarities and differences. We developed a profound tolerance andrespect for the country we were currently living in. I soon realized that therelationships I had developed in this country were the friendships that I wouldvalue and cherish the most in the future. All of us being foreigners in SaudiArabia led us to come closer together and to confide in one another. I wasslowly becoming my younger self again; outgoing, active and most importantly, happy. Looking back at my experience in Saudi Arabia, I have become aware ofwhat the country has offered me and I find myself taking back the feelings ofresentment that I had towards my parents for moving to this country, as well asthe harsh feelings I first developed towards the country itself.
After living in Saudi Arabia for approximately eleven years, I am happy tosay that I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience in the country, and haverealized that during my years in Saudi Arabia, I have had a unique opportunityto live overseas and meet people from different backgrounds, religions, andcultures. As a guest in the country, I have learned that Saudi Arabia hasoffered me the opportunity to experience a culture that is different from my ownin many ways, and this opportunity has allowed me to be open and to accept andtolerate different perspectives, traditions and beliefs. My exposure to thesedifferent nationalities in Saudi Arabia has built on my foundations of culturalawareness, rather than laying the cornerstone for it. I now see Saudi Arabia ina completely different light than when I had first moved to the country. I nolonger see it as a country that is part of the world, but a country that hasbrought the world to me.
Yours sincerely,

Dear xx,
The study of mathematical sciences has intrigued me for many years. Thedecision to study A levels in both Maths and Physics stemmed from a highinterest level and strong aptitude in both subject areas. This was reflected inthe AS grades I received in June 20xx; achieving an A grade in mathematics whichhas inspired me further in my pursuit of the subject.
My interest has spread to computers and trying to link the two together hasplayed a big part of my life in the last few years. I have taught myself, usingbooks and other available sources, how to program in HTML and this has made itpossible for me to take an active role in web design.
My other academic interests include Business Studies, especially managementand finance areas which link with sections of the maths course. My choice toinclude a humanities subject at A level was partly encouraged by my need toanalyse and evaluate situations, Business Studies gives me the chance to do thisin great detail and I find it therapeutic to get involved in relevant
case studies. I am also taking an A level in General Studies which isincreasing my knowledge of political and cultural issues. The subject alsoencourages group discussions concerning current affairs and provides me with theopportunity to input my opinions.
For the last few years I have been a member of a Duke of Edinburgh schemerunning locally within the college. In June 20xx I completed the Bronze Award andam now working towards my Gold. This has given me a lot of experience inteamwork, problem solving and maintaining a high level of responsibility. Thesequalities have been taken on into a successful work experience placement in year10 and my part time job as a sales/management assistant at respectable retailoutlet Marks and Spencer.
I have enjoyed my time in the Sixth Form and have taken pleasure from boththe academic and extra-curricular activities. I feel that I possess thequalities required to continue maths on to a higher level and combine it withmodules that both interest me now and in areas which I hope to build on whilstat university. I am confident that this enthusiasm will combine with my strongdetermination and motivation, enabling me to succeed in the challenges thatuniversity presents.
Yours sincerely,

Dear _,
It’s all about the headline. It’s about getting your point across in the most direct way you can. These personal statements are very good example of this, in just a few lines I have to get my message of why I want do a degree in Journalism across to my prospective universities. That is one of the reasons why I love to write, the challenge of putting over a complex thought or concept to a large audience of people and convey it in such a way everybody will understand it. As the great writer Hemingway once said, “My aim is to put down on paper what I see and what I feel in the best and simplest way.”
My own personal experience of journalism started young, my dad used to write for a magazine and take me with him when he went to interview people, since then I have been fascinated with the industry. When I was 14 I was lucky enough to get a work experience placement at “News International” in Wapping. I got to work on the websites of “FiredUp.com”, “Revolver.com” and “Page3.com” as well as have a tour of the offices of “The Sun”, “News Of The World” and “The Times”, I have also recently been offered a day’s work experience at my local paper and I am currently waiting for news of work experience at the BBC.
I pride myself on being well organised and thorough in my research. I have also developed many skills such as interview techniques and being able to see things from another perspective, a skill I have acquired through Sociology and Communication Studies, analytical skills through Film Studies and Media Studies and I have learnt about analysing and collating numerical data and factual evidence in Psychology. Although I have already completed three A-Levels and two AS Levels, I have taken a year out to study AS French, Sociology and Spanish. I did this in order to improve my grades and to give me a wider choice of qualifications as my previous subjects are all very similar with their syllabus as well the fact multiple languages would be an invaluable advantage to have when working in the area of communication.
Some of my outside interests are music, politics, the Internet and reading. Music in particular is a great love of mine, I regularly attend “gigs” and concerts and have been an active member of the “Sum 41 Street Team” for over a year, this involves spreading publicity through flyers and posters to promote the band, I find it very fulfilling and enjoyable. Another one of my interests is the Internet, I contribute articles to a site dealing with issues such as “top-up fees” and other important student matters, which I enjoy greatly and is helping to improve my knowledge of university for the future. I have a part time job waitressing at a local hotel which I do a few nights a week. It gives me a sense of my own independence and responsibility, I also help my mother at the local Red Cross during half terms and holidays cooking for the elderly and have also recently volunteered to sell Poppies for Remembrance Sunday throughout my town. Another activity of mine is being my tutor group representative for our college’s student council and regularly attend meetings to deal with concerns of the student body.
I am thoughtful, organised and handle pressure well, I love to write and it is my ambition to do so, I believe I can bring many things to the courses I have selected and in turn can get a lot out of them as well.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

Dear _,
By serving as a noncommissioned officer in theUnited StatesMarine Corps, I learned and developed valuable leadership skills that would prove crucial to my success as a leader and to my ability to gain the respect of my subordinates. The Marine Corps places great emphasis on leadership characteristics, believing that great leaders are not born, they are properly trained. I submitted to grueling training on my way to becoming an officer in the Marines, and believe this training gives me the foundation of strong leadership skills that I will need in every day corporateAmerica.
Leadership in the Marine Corps is more complicated than the simple management of employees. I learned this lesson the hard way, being thrust into a management position as my unit was being shipped over seas during the Persian Gulf War. As a newly promoted Corporal, I was given the job of night crew supervisor in charge of 15 other marines. In the Marine Corps, leaders are not only held accountable for the work getting done but also for the performance and conduct of their marines. At the age of 21,I had the responsibility not only to carry out my orders but also to safeguard the personal lives and protect the general welfare of my men. This being my second time over seas, I understood many of the difficulties that a young marine can have on their first extended trip away from their family. I enjoyed helping my marines over come their problems, and learned that the benefits were well worth the time that I invested. I discovered that employees who have the support of their management tend to be more focused on the tasks at hand, gaining levels of trust and loyalty that can only benefit the organization.
Related to this issue of gaining trust and loyalty through management supportiveness is that the Marine Corps requires creative means to motivate subordinates. It can be very difficult at times to be in charge of individuals, yet have no direct control over their salaries or advancement in the organization. The government decides military salaries, and promotions are controlled by boards with the primary means of measurement being time in service. For this reason, I learned to manage through mutual respect. I believe it is much more important to gain the trust and confidence of your employees than to use direct compensation to motivate them.
Throughout my Marine Corps career and beyond I developed many strong leadership skills, but most of all I learned that to be effective as a manager one must remain focused on the human aspect of leadership. By concentrating too much on the goal and not on the people needed to meet it, leaders risk alienating their employees and thus failure in achieving the goal itself. By leveraging the lessons and qualities I gained while serving as an officer in the Marine Corps, I hope to meaningfully contribute to the academic environment at the Anderson School of Business.

Dear _,
‘Accounting is like Art’. You have to analyse every aspect before making a just decision.
A teacher of mine once told me that if you were good at art, you would be good at accounts. It was hard to find his logic at first, but having spent two years doing GCSE Art and a further two on Accounts A Level, it all began to make sense. You need logic; everything has a set order and method. Each piece is placed carefully and has a high significance amongst its environment. You need analytical skills. Take apart every piece of information and use it to make your own decisions.
Having excelled in both these exams, I can proudly say that I possess the skills that will lead me to university. I have developed an interest in studying accounts or and would therefore like to continue doing so at university. The course that I would like to do at university is Business Accounts or Accounts and Finance. I feel that the two subjects combine well with one another and on many occasions I have founds that my knowledge of one has helped me with the other. Studying Maths and Business has also provided me with logic and a greater understanding of various concepts and methods. I have become more flexible in identifying what concepts need to be used and when, thus, helping me achieve the greatest results possible. I have the ability to pick up skills and knowledge quickly and am independent enough to conduct my own study and research. On many occasions at college I have taught myself various chapters in maths in order to remain ahead of the class.
My main ambition for the future is to become an Accountant Executive or a Financial Advisor. I am hoping university will provide me with an understanding of the business world as well as offering me a wide range of choices and connections after my course. However, I have also helped to teach mathematics. I have taken part in a project at school where we taught younger pupils the basics of maths. I also helped to tutor many of my classmates in preparation for exams, which they found helpful. I enjoyed teaching and so this will be my third choice of career.
Outside of studying, one of my many passions is Art. I enjoy visiting art galleries and studying art in depth. My favourite type of art is symbolism and surrealism and my favourite artists are Dali and Escher as they both deal with ‘double possibilities’. Recently, however, I have developed a new interest in contemporary art, of which I have done a number of paintings on canvas on commission for friends and family who have all been pleased with my work.
Most of my spare time on the weekend is taken up by my part time job as a sales associate at Skechers USA, Bullring, Birmingham. I have been working at Skechers since the opening of the store in September and am one of only two of the original members of staff left. This is an advantage for me as I can offer the highest level of customer service and have a good knowledge of the overall running of the store, which makes me committed, reliable and adaptable as I have found that I need to adjust myself to the many changes that have occurred over the year. My job has also taught me to be more tolerable and patient with others.
I have thoroughly enjoyed college and believe that university is the next step for me. College and my part time job have changed me as a person. They have given me a greater sense of independence and success. I feel that college has really made me grow and has introduced me to a wider range of people. I have opened up to people more and am now a better team player as I have learnt to listen to others and take in their opinions. I have become accepting to other cultures and beliefs and feel that I am much more open-minded.
I hope that you have analysed this piece carefully enough to offer me a place at your university, and trust that you have yet to see the bigger picture of me.
Yours sincerely,

Dear _,
Having spent the last four years working in the social care field, I have come to realise that my passion lies in helping people who are less advantaged. I am currently taking an access to higher education course to further my ambition to become a social worker.
Until recently I was working in a residential home with adults with learning disabilities ranging from mild to severe. I worked with individuals who also have bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's and challenging behaviour. This gave me great insight into the role of a social worker as I was attending multi-disciplinary care reviews helping service users to determine their present needs and wishes and identify future goals and desired outcomes, on an ongoing basis, whilst promoting empowerment, individuality, rights, responsibilities, identity and self esteem. I was putting care plans into action by helping individuals with life skills e.g. developing basic budgeting and money managing skills, providing information or helping service users to access information relevant to their needs and wishes, assisting them to develop a higher level of independence and improve their communication and social skills.
I was also providing continuous emotional support on a daily basis and during stressful life changes. I learnt how to communicate with clients about sensitive issues in an appropriate manner, understanding and being prepared for their reactions to the information. This job significantly improved my communication skills, my patience, and my initiative. As a result I became more aware of my own values and beliefs whilst showing respect for all persons and their values, beliefs, cultures, goals, needs and preferences.
I completed the NVQ3 in Health and Social care which enabled me to develop my practice. I learnt about the laws, legislations and different government policies involved in social care, about abuse and the different forms it can take and how to help individuals take control of their lives.
Although I have no experience working with children and families, I have raised my daughter single handed and feel that I can relate to families who are having troubles. I hope with my positive attitude and determination to improve my own quality of life I can reflect this into my practice when helping others.
At present I am studying Sociology, Psychology, Law and Politics on the access course. I am learning about the impacts of the industrial revolution and how society is seen from a Marxist and functionalist point of view, about different types of mental disorders, the structure of the government and how the criminal justice system works. I am finding it very interesting and am really enjoying being back in education.
I also read the Community Care magazine each week to keep up to date with social issues. I find the topics on current social issues very interesting and enjoy reading about the experiences of qualified social workers I also find the articles on topics such as advocacy helpful. I hope that studying the degree in social work will give me a greater understanding of social problems, their causes, their solutions and the impacts these have while allowing me to obtain the skills I require to be successful in my chosen career path.
Yours sincerely,

Dear _,
I would like to apply to do a Management degree. Having acted as Managing Director on a Young Enterprise Team whilst doing my ‘AS’ levels, I came up with innovative ideas that made a very successful company. Having held management positions within Human Resources, Operations, and Finance, I quickly realised that pursuing a management degree at university would be ideal for me.
After my GCSE’s, I held a temporary job as a junior in an Insolvency practice, in order to gain work experience. Having to work to tight deadlines taught me how to work independently as part of a professional team. I learnt that in business, if one person lacks productivity, then everyone else can suffer, and also how to motivate others as a means of preventing such issues. I used the skills learnt to enhance my role as the Managing Director of my young Enterprise company, particularly methods of motivation and delegation, and the significance of being accountable for others. Having spent nearly three years working part time in a Health food shop alongside my studies, I developed my communication skills, with both colleagues and customers, and proved to be a trustworthy employee.
Being appointed as Deputy Head Boy in the sixth form was a great honour to me. My skills were greatly enhanced by holding this position, as I would often have to listen, and respond to issues brought up by fellow prefects, and students lower down the school. Through activities such as Lunch duty, I learnt the worth of different leadership skills, and that it is important to treat everyone as an individual in order to get results. I was always keen to stay into the evening to help out at school events.
Socialising is very important to me, and I am always keen to meet new people. I enjoy trying new foods to increase my knowledge of different cultures, and my culinary skills will prove very useful in independent university life. I enjoy travelling, and learning about modern history. Having recently returned from Prague, I visited a concentration camp. This was a moving experience for me, and something I will never forget. Music is one of my biggest hobbies, and I use music to help me unwind and reflect on things. I use the internet to keep up with current affairs and sports news.
I have always been a keen sportsman, representing my school in many sporting activities. I enjoy running, particularly competing in sprint races, but also long distance running as a means of keeping fit. I always try to go for a run every evening, during breaks between my A Level studies. I represented my school as a keen member of the district and Maccabi Great Britain athletics teams, particularly in the relay. I formally played tennis and table tennis in national competitions, and more recently I have played in football, rugby, and cricket leagues outside of school.
I believe that my experiences have prepared me for independent university life. My social skills together with my ambition to succeed in life prove me to be good candidate for a Management Degree.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila
